WAKEFIELD, Massachusetts, United States – Optikos Corporation and Conceivable Life Sciences are partnering to develop advanced time-lapse imaging systems for the world’s first AI-powered automated IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) laboratory.
Under this collaboration, Optikos will transform Conceivable’s laboratory-proven time-lapse imaging system into a manufacturable design optimized for performance in clinical IVF environments. The partnership leverages Optikos’ specialized expertise in diffraction-limited, passively athermalized, multi-band optics to create a robust imaging engine capable of continuous embryo assessment during incubation.
Time-lapse imaging systems represent a critical addition to IVF applications meant to improve embryo observation and selection. The technology offers two main advantages for IVF. First, it eliminates the need to repeatedly remove embryos from the incubator for assessment, maintaining stable temperature, humidity, and gas levels that support healthy development. Second, the continuous video monitoring captures brief developmental events that traditional periodic assessments might miss. Getting to an accurate understanding of these dynamic observations is important, as the interpreted data via AI modelling is what helps identify which embryos have the highest potential for successful implantation.
The imaging systems under development at Optikos will deliver optimized image quality, stability, and uptime inside IVF incubators. This directly enhances the embryo assessment capabilities and the workflow efficiency for Conceivable’s automated platform. Optikos engineering is planning on leveraging collective decades of design experience, including but not limited to rigorous tolerance analysis and Monte Carlo simulation techniques to de-risk performance, accelerate time-to-market and manage overall manufacturing costs.

With one in six adults worldwide affected by infertility, the potential to improve treatment success rates is deeply meaningful to our team” -Byron Seabolt, Business Development Manager at Optikos
“This collaboration between Optikos and Conceivable resonates with us in two distinct ways. It represents both a compelling technical challenge for our engineers and a profound opportunity to impact human health” says Byron Seabolt, Business Development Manager at Optikos. “We’re pushing the boundaries of optical engineering to create a time-lapse imaging system that operates flawlessly in the demanding incubator environment, especially in terms of opto-mechanics. But beyond the technical achievement, we’re contributing to a solution for a global health crisis. With one in six adults worldwide affected by infertility according to the WHO, the potential to improve treatment success rates and access is deeply meaningful to our team” concludes Seabolt.
“As the only company currently pursuing a complete end-to-end automated IVF solution, we understand that every detail matters, down to each pixel captured by our imaging systems,” says Brian Bixon, Chief Technology Officer at Conceivable Life Sciences.

This partnership required careful consideration, and Optikos’ proven expertise in precision optical engineering made them the clear choice. We’re confident this collaboration will deliver the exceptional performance our platform demands.” -Brian Bixon, Chief Technology Officer at Conceivable Life Sciences
Conceivable has recently raised $50 million to advance its novel automated IVF platform, which combines artificial intelligence, automation, and robotic precision to improve outcomes and accessibility in fertility treatments.
The partnership includes developing several prototype iterations as the system evolves to a full-scale clinical product. Optikos will provide comprehensive optical design, engineering analysis, and manufacturability consulting throughout the development process. This collaborative approach ensures the imaging system remains seamlessly compatible with Conceivable’s original design intent while meeting the demanding performance and reliability requirements of clinical IVF applications.
