Precision Optics for Space Applications

Working on space optics means tackling some of the toughest engineering challenges. Optikos® is at the forefront of such demanding work, with high-performance results. From satellite imaging systems and laser communication optics to star tracker lenses and Earth observation telescopes, we design and manufacture precision optical components that perform reliably in the most extreme conditions of space.

We Enable Mission-Critical Optics for Space Exploration

NASA worked with Optikos to develop a system to characterize visible wavelength lenses used in the RESTORE-L payload.

Optikos delivered a unique quality measurement station designed to characterize the image quality of lens systems used on the NASA Restore-L Satellite Service Robots. These lenses act as the system’s “eyes” as it approaches and docks with a target satellite. To simulate docking conditions, a special Optikos LensCheck™ System projects resolution targets and measures the quality of lens imagery as the targets move from long to short range distances.

The Optikos team delivers complete space optics solutions from design and analysis to prototyping, verification testing, and sensor integration. We specialize in small-to-large diameter space-borne telescopes across diverse mission profiles. Our space optics serve critical applications including earth observation and mapping, multi-spectral and infrared imaging, space spectrometry, space-borne LiDAR, free space laser communications, astronomical observation, and planet finding.
