Stephen D. Fantone, Ph.D.

President \ CEO

Stephen D. Fantone is the founder and president of Optikos Corporation, headquartered in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Dr. Fantone attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where, in 1974, he received bachelor’s degrees in both electrical engineering and management.  In 1979 he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Optics from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester.

Fantone is a Senior Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT, serves on the boards of Zygo Corporation, Rofin-Sinar Technology, and the Optical Society of America.  Since 1996, he has served as the Treasurer of the Optical Society of America and recently was awarded their distinguished service award.  Dr. Fantone is a recognized expert in optical engineering, has been awarded over 65 patents covering a broad range of optical technologies, and has served on numerous review panels and as an expert on patent infringement and trade secret litigation.

Daniel Orband

Director of Engineering

Daniel Orband earned a B.S. in Optics from the University of Rochester in 1993. After graduation, he joined a startup developing product development of commercial optical devices and in-line inspection systems. In 1999, Orband joined the optical engineering staff at Optikos. Starting within the Optikos optical design and engineering services business, Dan served as a project manager for several large OpTest and ISITE test system projects.  Presently the Optikos Engineering Director, he is responsible for many innovative optical systems, including a spectrally programmable visible light source and the development of several large-scale I-SITE™, VideoMTF™, and scanning based infrared test systems.

David A. Imrie, Ph.D.

Chief Technology Officer

Dr. David Imrie received his PhD in Physics from the University of Natal, South Africa, in 1993. He then spent five years working in the optics section of the National Physics Laboratory at the CSIR in Pretoria.  During this time, he worked on a number of projects in both the military and commercial sectors.  He joined Optikos in 1998 as a Senior Optical Engineer.  Aside from his present responsibility for the engineering services’ side of Optikos business, he regularly exercises his diverse interests by making optical, electronic, and software engineering contributions to many projects.  Dr. Imrie is an expert at optical design, optical engineering, and metrology systems.

Roger Kirschner

Director of Business Development

Roger Kirschner earned a B.S. in Optical Engineering from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester in 1980.  For nine years he worked as an Optical Engineer responsible for IR / visible system development, while attaining an internationally oriented MBA from Northeastern University.   Since then, Roger has combined his education and work experience, marketing optically focused technology including optical components, opto-mechanical subassemblies, lasers and engineering design work over the spectral region from the UV to the LWIR.   Through his broad experience in the optics field, he is well positioned to support Optikos customers requiring metrology, optical engineering or product development support.  As Director of Business Development at Optikos, Roger is responsible for sales and marketing activities worldwide including strategy development and implementation, new product introductions, and international business expansion.

Peter Domenicali

Engineering Fellow

Peter Domenicali has worked as an optomechanical engineer in metrology-related product development since 1976 and holds nine patents for commercially successful product designs. He has engaged in the design and development of production-level metrology equipment and related products for the semiconductor, optical fabrication, aerospace, and biomedical industries. Mr. Domenicali attended Yale University, where he received his B.S., with Honors in Mechanical Engineering, in 1975.

In his four years at Optikos, Mr. Domenicali has designed a 3.39-micron IR Laser Unequal Path Interferometer, interchangeable lens and dewar systems for an IR Radiometer, a Null Corrector Test Fixture for aspheric mirrors, a powered precision rotary stage for the LensCheck low-cost MTF test bench, a 12,000-pound optical test station with a pulsed IR laser source, multiple precision rotary stages, and a 1.5-meter-travel granite-rail air bearing stage, and numerous optical test fixtures for our clients. He has also contributed to the solution of many client problems in our Engineering Services business sector.

Jian Zhang, Ph.D.

Software Engineering Manager

Dr. Zhang received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physical Chemistry from Harvard University and a B. S. degree in Physics from the Peking University in Beijing.  Dr. Zhang has overall responsibility for Optikos’ software products and has been involved in the development of the I-SITE™, VideoMTF™, SMI, LMI and WavePro products.
